Author and Scholar of Carl Jung, Dr. Kevin Lu enters the mind meld! Professor Kevin Lu, PhD is a scholar of Jung and co-author of the new book C.G. Jung’s Collected Works, the Basics.

Kevin served as head of the Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic studies program at the University of Essex and is currently a Professor of Applied Psychoanalysis and Head of Department at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London.

In this mind meld, we riff on all the Jungian and esoteric goodies — Synchronicity, individuation, the shadow, how archetypes impact the media and society, and more!

In this one, we muse about the immortal wisdom of Platonism and Zen Buddhism. We also riff on the importance of direct, embodied experiences (both mystical and mundane), why reductionism is doomed, and why reality is neither top-down (created) or bottom-up (emerging), but both. Other topics include the meaning crisis, Carl Jung, how the above merge with modern cognitive science, and more.

Don is a professor of cognitive science at UC Irvine who is proposing something radical yet fully backed by scientific rigor —

First, you perceive zero percent of reality. You live in an evolutionarily convenient illusion akin to a computer desktop interface. Second, what’s truly real underneath that illusion (and all of our scientific models) is a realm of consciousness populated by what Don calls “conscious agents.”

So, despite how the world appears, no matter what happens at the large hadron colder or what we find peering through the James Webb telescope; what all of it is, at bottom, is consciousness expressing itself.

Carl Jung’s answer to that question was what he called ‘individuation’ — a lifelong process aimed toward becoming whole, unique, and integrated. But what does that mean practically? What is its deeper, esoteric psycho-spiritual goal? How does it relate to archetypes, our shadows, and even our souls? In this transmission, we explore.
